I read a post you wrote on a blog about Ricoh GXR…It was about you finding a dealer in Hong Kong who sold you a GXR S10 unit converted to infrared.
I was looking to buy an infrared converted unit for my GXR, and it seems you made a really good deal.
Any chance you can give me the contact details of the dealer please?

I am afraid the guy from whom I obtained the infrared GXR S10 module ran out of them or something. I searched for GXR Infrared on ebay (where I bought it) and got nothing. (At the time, which was a little over a year ago, his ebay handle was joyouslandman, but I don’t see evidence of that, either.)
My other IR conversion (a Panasonic DMC-G3) was done in the USA by LifePixel. https://www.lifepixel.com/ They did a fine job and will do it for a variety of digital cameras. It usually costs a few hundred dollars. They do not list a GXR module, but I once contacted them out of curiosity and they said they could do it. As in, “send us the module so we can look it over.” I would consider getting one of Ricoh’s bigger sensor modules, like the Leica M one, or the 24-85mm A16, and having them do it.
My S10 unit came with a set of different bandpass filters. With the LifePixel things you basically have them install a bandpass filter over the sensor after they have removed the standard filter in order to let in the IR. I chose their “SuperColor” filter for my DMC-G3.

I stumbled across a post where you stated to wrote documentation for VAXELN. Yesterday I was reading info by Google on Android development. I first thought that I had encountered something good as there were a number of block diagrams which are missing from many articles today but they turned out to have been poorly done.
I found DEC manuals to be so much better than what I have encounter in the last couple of decades having developed software on/for DOS-11, RSTS/E, RT-11, RSX-11S/M/M+, VAXELN & VMS. My last coding on DEC systems was in C for VMS & VAXELN.

That is so thoughtful of you to write, and thanks for the compliment. From photography to VAXELN… a small world. Yes, I was the original technical writer for the product, which was named VAXElan until the very last minute, when the legal and marketing people made us change the name. We were a very small team who had set up a new DEC lab in the Seattle area, to do something different. If you used VAX C and RSX-11/M, you may know that a lot of the same team did that compiler and OS, as well as VMS itself. I would be interested to know what kind of system you did with Elan (a lot of us can’t get out of the habit of calling it that).
